Yes, gutters can be covered by insurance — but only if you know how to get them included. Most homeowners either miss out or don’t realize they were shorted in their original claim.
Let’s unpack how gutter coverage actually works and what to do if they weren’t paid for on your last claim.
A lot of our customers come to us after they've already filed a claim and received a check. The roof is paid for, maybe some siding or screens too — but the gutters?
“They didn’t include those.”
“They said they weren’t damaged enough.”
“They said it was cosmetic.”
Sound familiar?
Here’s the deal: insurance will pay for gutters, but they often leave them out unless you know what to look for and how to document it.
Gutters are considered part of your home’s structure under dwelling coverage (Coverage A). If a storm caused:
...then they should be included.
Important: Cosmetic damage may not be covered unless it affects function. That’s why documentation is everything.
You still have options.
If your claim is still open (usually up to 6–12 months after payout), your contractor can file a supplement to include the missed items — like gutters, drip edge, or fascia.
This happens all the time. You don’t need to refile your claim — just submit documentation of what was missed.
If your claim was closed but you're within your policy’s time limit (often 12–24 months after the storm), your contractor can request it to be reopened with new evidence.
Insurance doesn’t always care about cosmetic dents — but if the slope changed, water overflows, or connections pulled away, they’ll often approve replacement. We measure and document all of this.
Sometimes there's still unreleased depreciation on your claim. If gutters weren’t originally listed, they may be added as part of the remaining claim value.
Bottom line: If your gutters were damaged by a storm, there’s a good chance they’re covered. But acting fast — and working with someone who knows the system — makes all the difference.
